Mismanagement of public funds must be stopped

Editor, Last week, I read in The New Times that billions of public funds had not been recovered by the Attorney General.  Since 2005, the Auditor General’s office has reported cases of mismanagement of public funds. While in most cases the government has moved in to hold officials accountable, I believe more efforts can bring this malpractice to a halt altogether.Whereas it’s obvious that human beings will always be corrupt, the strong checks and balances and high standards of accountability that have been set in Rwanda give me the confidence to say that if these measures are upheld and applied accordingly, our country can genuinely stamp out corruption. The most important factor is political will, which our government is not short of.Let us all work together as a nation and ensure that this vice is uprooted.Martin AsiimweKimihurura
