Government has finally issued a directive to reopen Ecole Secondaire de Hotelerie et Tourisme, a tourism school in based in Gasabo District, following the improvement registered by the administration. In an interview with The New Times, the Director General of Workforce Development Authority (WDA), Jerome Gasana, noted that basing on a recent inspection, the school has sorted out most of what it was asked to do. Management was, however, given two months within which to fulfill all the necessary requirements. The school was closed by the Ministry of Education over a number of issues, including lack of sufficient academic infrastructure and poor hygiene among others."Currently there is a big improvement at the school compared to the previous years and this shows that the school’s management seriously took into consideration what we demanded from them,” Gasana said, citing recruitment of more qualified teachers and an improved kitchen. He asked the school to continue putting in place all the necessary requirements to meet the agreed standards. The school’s legal representative, John Yaramba Karagire, said they resumed studies last week as schools across the country reopened for second term. "We bought various pedagogical materials like textbooks and other requirements like preparatory books; which is why our school was allowed to resume studies like the rest,” Yaramba said.He added that the school management also cleared salary arrears owed to teachers.Yaramba also noted that they are also in the process of constructing a laboratory and the administration block. However he said that the district and the ministry of education should give them ample time to complete the facilities in appropriate period of time saying that they cannot complete them with in a timeframe of two months from now which they were given."The construction of library and staff room is among our priorities, I request the ministry and the district to give us enough time to finish them,” Yaramba said.
