ICC Africa Div.3
Final, Sunday Seychelles 102 all out lost to Zambia 103/5Zambia won by one runTHE moment the Rwanda men’s national cricket team fell to Gambia on Wednesday afternoon in their second game then its dreams were earmarked for disaster at the just concluded ICC Africa Division 3 tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa. That Rwanda’s sole purpose at this event was to return to Division 2 and stay there has turned into a fruitless campaign that will see the national side return to the drawing board and prepare for the next edition.Rwanda defeated Mali by an amazing 47 runs on Wednesday morning in the tournament opener, fell to Gambia in the afternoon before thrashing Cameroon by 104 runs and Morocco by one run on Thursday.A loss to Zambia on Friday afternoon made it two losses for the Rwandan side but a strong comeback against St. Helena and Seychelles on Saturday at the Sahara Park, Willowmore stadium made it five wins but that was not enough. This clearly put Rwanda out of title contention, down and out of joining the much targeted Division 2.In the final yesterday morning, Seychelles elected to bat first and put on 102 runs all out and the undefeated Zambia chased to score 103/5 in just 15.5 overs. The Zambian cricket team has been named the newly crowned ICC Africa Division 3 champions and will be promoted to Division 2 along with Seychelles.
