Police arrested six people in Nyarugunga Sector, Kigali, in connection with a wave of robberies over the last couple of months.The six are suspected to belong to a larger ring of criminals that have carried out over six robberies, particularly in the upscale Kagugu and Nyarutarama areas in Kinyinya sector."We were tipped by citizens that a robbery was taking place in a premise in Gisozi. We sealed off the premises and arrested one robber who had been shot in the leg in an ensuing scuffle with a police officer,” Theos Badege, the Police Spokesman said."He provided us information on where the other robbers could be and we arrested five of them.”When police arrived at the house rented by the suspects, they uncovered electronic equipment, including computers, television sets and radios as well as a Toyota Corsa suspected to be the getaway car.According to Kigali Regional Police Commander, Rogers Rutikanga, the ringleader escaped and is at large, believed to be armed and dangerous."He goes by many identities; on his Congolese ID, he goes by Jean De La Croix Tuombe Kiningi whereas his Rwandan ID shows that he is Jean De La Croix Tuyisennge,” Rutikanga said.Rutikanga requested citizens to be more vigilant about suspicious activities and report to the police.
