While chemically relaxed hair increases our hairstyling options, it also needs a lot of maintenance to make sure it stays looking good .Relaxed hair is susceptible to breakage and therefore it is important to take preventative measures to guard against this.It is normally fragile during the week following chemical straightening and requires extra protection from heat and friction until new growth emerges and the natural curl pattern returns. To deal with relaxed hair that has started breaking one should try out the following:Clip the ends of relaxed hair every 6-8 weeks. This keeps splits from travelling the length of your strand of hair which may result into uneven breakage of the hair. In some cases one is advised to cut off the relaxed hair and then start growing the hair again. The new growing hair will be stronger than the one which was damaged already and will help one grow hair quickly. You should also think about choosing a stress-free hair style to promote hair growth and prevent hair damage. Try wrapping your hair to avoid breaking caused by overheating. Consider alternating between heated styling and stress-free styling for greater flexibility and increased damage protection.Wash hair with clarifying and hydrating shampoo. Clarifying shampoo removes any residue left from relaxing process and hydrating shampoo can be used for normal washing to infuse moisture into the hair shaft. Try and be committed to a regular hair washing schedule.Provide adequate hair moisture to the hair. Hair moistening helps the hair to be strong .it is advised to oil hair almost everyday and to oil it from the scalp to prevent things like dandruff.Do treatment every now and then and be mindful of the treatments you use. It is not advisable to keep changing treatments. Try and stick to the one that you think helps your hair. You can try using treatments like T-tree, marrow, henna for people who have weak hair and any other recommended by your hair dresser.Avoid using things like tonging machines on your hair if it is breaking. Tongs involve too much heating and therefore using it on breaking hair may cause more harm.Braiding can help one regain her normal hair. Use conditioners to prevent and repair weak spots. Apply a rinse-out conditioner after shampooing the hair. Select a leave-in shampoo that is rich in natural oils like jojoba and coco nut. Deep condition your hair every week with a hot oil treatment.
