Jan Habig (SA) 18 ptsRwanda’s Davite Giancarlo continued his good form as he grabbed crucial points from the Sasol rally to keep in contention for this year’s FIA Africa Rally Championship title.Giancarlo navigated by Sylvia Vindevogel in a Subaru Impreza finished fourteenth overall clocking 02:29:23.8 after completing 14 special stages covering around 200 kilometers of the 700-kilometre route rally which ended in Nelspruit in the Mpumalanga Lowveld.The second round of the FIA African Rally Championship, which ran in conjunction with the second round of the SA championship, was won by the host nation’s Mark Cronje, who was navigated by Robin and Houghton.Zambia’s Mohammed Essa finished 13th overall, one spot ahead of Giancarlo clocking 02:26:59.8.Italian-born Giancarlo secured ten points for his place finish in Sasol rally. He now sits on fourth spot on the African rally championship, five points behind Essa and three points behind Zimbabwe’s Jess Watson and Mark Cronje.Cronje and Houghton (Sasol Ford Fiesta) continued their good form in the South African Rally Championship when they followed up their recent win in the opening round in KwaZulu-Natal with victory in the Sasol Rally.Drivers battling for Africa rally championship title shift focus to the ARC’s third round of the Zambia international rally scheduled for May 11-13.
