Jobseeker’s Diary

I’m seriously considering a career change. I could become the next big producer, film producer to be specific. There’s plenty of material to work with and so I won’t have to try too hard to come up with interesting plots or angles.

The one I can’t get enough of has to be the continuous blunders by US soldiers. Aside from reflecting badly on Barack Obama’s tenure and distressing Afghan citizens (only those who don’t kill others), I think it would make for a good documentary. A part of me sympathizes with the soldiers. They must be really frustrated after so many months away from home and their loved ones. Others are nursing depression after losing relatives and pals to the war. You can’t be too hard on them for wanting to dance on the enemy’s grave, so to speak. Regarding the recently published pictures, I was thinking that since the corpses were of suicide bombers, maybe we should let this slide. The other storyline is of course the Secret Service scandal, dubbed "Hookergate” by the media. Now this would draw crowds to the movie theatre. At times I feel sorry for guys. I guess sometimes they curse the existence of a creature called woman. An astute, brave, accomplished man who has done a good job of keeping the bad guys away from the "President of The World” errs in judgement and decides to spend a night or two with a prostitute. Anyone would realise that’s trouble. And why would you play with a prostitute’s pay? The woman is "busy” earning her bread and will raise hell the minute you show you aren’t about to cooperate after having your fun. Don’t ask how I know this. I’ve read far too many stories like this. Stories that make me forget about my own problems even just for a while. I can imagine the conversation between those Secret Service agents with their bosses after the scandal broke and later with their wives. "Honey, I just got fired because I spent a night with a prostitute who I then refused to pay the amount we had agreed…” Most likely, the wife will show you the door. If you’re lucky though and she’s the forgiving kind, maybe she’ll appreciate the fact that you were working on a budget. The more you save, the more you take home right? Away from my movie-making fantasy, I’m really concerned for the people of South Sudan. Omar al Bashir better hope he won’t have to eat his words the way his former pal Gadaffi did. Now more than ever, the ICC should ensure that this man has his day in court. As should Bashar al-Assad. I should have known better than to celebrate the ceasefire. Either he doesn’t know what a ceasefire is or he simply doesn’t care. I’ve given up trying to figure this man out, perhaps because I’m too busy trying to figure out another, Anders Behring Breivik, yes that fanatic who killed 77 unarmed Norwegians. More difficult to understand is why he’s being given so much publicity. The way the cameras click every time he makes an appearance makes you wonder whether he’s a celebrity. And why does the trial have to last 10 weeks? It’s only a waste of taxpayers’ money, and means more trauma for those who survived the onslaught and more pain for those who lost their children and friends. He confessed that he committed the murders and so he should just be locked up, sane or otherwise. One other thing, 21 years for 77 lives is a joke. I hope he gets life imprisonment and not the death penalty which I regard as the easy way out. To be continued…
