Editor,Arthur Asiimwe’s piece, "If cassava can earn money, keep your Aid!” in The New Times, April 18, was great.But I would like us to treat the people who give aid to Rwanda with respect. There were times we needed them and they did not come. We are still blaming them for that! Now some understood the need and helped us. We should thank them. What our Dear President, Paul Kagame, has always emphasised is that we should work hard and make good use of all available resources and any help we get (direct aid, scholarships, cooperation, friendship) to become self reliant and also help others. It will be unfair [kutiha agaciro, wibagirwa vuba aho tuvuye] if we do not value the good heart of the small taxpayer who contributed to help us. For sure, the future of Rwanda is brighter, but hard work is required from all of us.Efrem M NY

Editor,Well said, Arthur! That’s exactly what we need to keep hearing. We may not have diamonds and oil but we do have cassava and other things as you rightly put it. Let us keep on searching deep within ourselves and, who knows, before everyone realizes we will be running the World Food Programme!
