Last week, I visited a family for Easter dinner. It seemed to me that the only thing that they didn’t fry was the fresh fruit on the dining table.According to The New York Times Health Guide, fatty foods can cause immediate side effects such as gas, bloating, acid reflux and heartburn, and long-term effects such as increased risk for heart disease. While some fats are necessary for wellness, other should be limited.Eating these foods can cause, among others, bloating, acid reflux, heartburn, unhealthy weight gain, cardiovascular disease and obesity.Back to our daily lives in Rwanda; you may feel almost helpless at times trying to resist the ubiquitous temptation to indulge in oily food. Whether your favourite guilty pleasure is French fries, cheeseburgers, pizza, fried chicken, cookies and sausages you probably know these are not healthy food choices. The high concentration of bad fats in these foods can undermine your health in a variety of ways. Being mindful of the potential adverse effects of fatty food on your body may help you make dietary choices that support rather than sabotage your good health.Since everyone has different taste and preference it many seem to be hard for you to drop you planned meal of today. But you need to adjust it. When it comes to dietary fat, the keys to a healthful diet are eating the right types of fat and limiting your total daily intake. To reduce the amount of cholesterol and saturated fat in your diet, eat non-fat dairy products instead of whole-milk products; choose lean cuts of meat and trim excess fat before cooking; remove the skin from poultry before cooking; broil or roast meat, fish and poultry instead of frying; and increase your intake of, fruits, vegetables, beans and fish as protein sources instead of red meat.
