‘You can’t keep a good woman down’ is a collection of fourteen short stories released in 1982 by African-American author Alice Walker. Each story is an uplifting account how African-American women persevered over adversity. The topics the author tackles include rape, abortion, love, lust, fame, cultural thievery, the delight of new lovers, and the rediscovery of old friends, , racism and sexism.The author is best known for writing the Pulitzer-prize winning book of 1986 movie ‘The Color Purple’ based on her book with the same title.
