Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) has given ten university scholarships to Genocide survivors who did not have a chance to further their education due to financial constraints."The scholarships will help the survivors complete their studies,” RRA Commissioner General, Ben Kagarama Bahizi, said, last week, during a joint discussion on Genocide as part of the commemoration activities. He explained that the sponsorship will cover tuition fees for a period of four years which is the normal academic period for one to complete undergraduate studies. The beneficiaries would be selected in consultation with relevant authorities. The meeting which brought together employees from RRA, the National Electoral Commission and the Office of the Auditor General also served as an occasion to remember customs workers who were killed in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The three institutions share premises in Kimihurura, Gasabo District. At the same function, MP Denis Polisi urged participants to focus on and helping shape a future that would promote a country with a common development goal.Referring to the bad history that led the country into the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Polisi explained that Rwandans have the responsibility to oppose any kind of influence that might try to draw the country to the past, but rather base on the past to build constructive ideas to develop their country.Jean de Dieu Mucyo, the president of the national Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG), urged participants to sustain hope for a better future.
