AFTER failing to clinch silverware, the local judo federation has confirmed their bid to have France-based judo professional Fred Yannick Sekamana Uwase compete in the Africa junior championship due in October in Botswana. The national judo federation boss Christian Bisika told Times Sport that they feel the young and talented Uwase can storm the junior continental showpiece with success."He has a good future and we believe competing in his category (junior) later this year would help him realise his chance of winning the title."He showed great character in the Africa championships and though he lost but we all knew prior to the match that tough for him to beat his senior and experienced players,” added Bisika.Bisika further adds that the African championship was a perfect opportunity to give the youngster exposure, albeit at a very high level. "I think he needs to realise early on in his (judo) career, just how serious these high level competitions are and give him a long term goal to work for,” he explained.Meanwhile, the Rwanda judo federation boss is seeking for a wildcard entry for Uwase such that he can compete at this summer’s London Olympic Games. The 17-year old Uwase missed on snatching London’s ticket after suffering a first round exit following a 2:23 loss to Chad’s Mazou Abaker Mbairo in 73kg category.
