The Rwanda Meteorology Agency has released its weather forecast for May 2023, with expected rainfall ranging between 50 and 200 mm across the country.
Over many parts of the country, the expected rainfall will be slightly above the range of rainfall usually recorded in May. The forecast, released on May 2, states that the first 10 days of May 2023 are expected to be wetter than usual, with above-average rainfall, while the remaining days are expected to record rainfall within the usual range across the country.

According to the spatial distribution map, a higher amount of rainfall is expected to range between 175 and 200 mm over many parts of North Western and parts of Nyamasheke District.
Rainfall ranging between 150 and 175 mm is expected in the remaining parts of Western Province and Northern Province, except Gicumbi District and southern parts of Rulindo and Gakenke Districts where rainfall ranging between 100 and 150 mm is expected.

A reduced amount of rainfall ranging between 50 and 75 mm is expected over northern and central parts of Nyagatare and southern parts of Kirehe, Ngoma, and Bugesera Districts. The remaining parts of the country are expected to record rainfall ranging between 75 and 150 mm.
Moderate to slightly strong wind ranging between 4m/s and 8m/s is expected across the country. Slightly strong wind speed ranging between 6 and 8 m/s is expected over Western Province except for eastern parts of Nyabihu and Ngororero Districts. It is also expected over Gatsibo and Nyagatare Districts, many parts of Gicumbi, Burera, and Nyamagabe Districts and localized parts of Kirehe, Kayonza, Nyanza, and Ruhango Districts. The rest of the country is expected to experience moderate wind speed ranging between 4 and 6 m/s.
The mean maximum temperature during May 2023 is expected to range between 18°C and 28°C. The highest temperature ranging between 26°C and 28°C is expected in Nyarugenge, Kicukiro, and Bugesera Districts, eastern parts of Gisagara, Nyanza, Kamonyi, and Ruhango Districts, western parts of Ngoma, and southern parts of Rusizi District. Lower maximum temperatures ranging between 18°C and 20°C are expected in the western parts of Nyabihu, eastern parts of Rubavu, northern parts of Musanze, and Burera Districts.
