EASTER season is over and people are picking up from where they left. During such a season people are busy with so many things, but above all it is indulging oneself in eating. In most cases people do not eat healthily because it is it time to make merry. It is for this reason that detoxification is required to get rid of all the junk foods, red meats and alcohol from our system for a fresh start. As some people might think, detoxification is not all about starving yourself, but to eat some things in moderation and others in plenty. Some of these foods that are good to rid our bodies of unwanted substances are like fruits, vegetables and of course lots of water.Fruits are extremely high in liquid-content, helping the body wash out toxins more especially the apples. Apples are also very easy to digest and are high in antioxidants, nutrients, fiber and many important vitamins like vitamin C.Drinking lots of green tea helps a lot because it is full of antioxidants; green tea not only washes toxins out of the system through its liquid content, but also contains a special type of antioxidant called catechins, known to increase liver function. For those who would not like the taste of hot green tea, juicing is the way to go. These citrus-wonders aid the body in flushing out toxins, as well as jump-start the digestive tract with enzymatic processes. They also aid the liver in its cleansing processes. To increase detoxification process, start each morning with a warm glass of lemon water.A friend of mine once went for a one week detox of eating greens only. She had assorted greens from wheat grass, kale, spinach or other organic leafy greens. These plants will help give a chlorophyll-boost to your digestive tract. Chlorophyll rids the body of harmful environmental toxins from smog, heavy metals, herbicides, cleaning products and pesticides which are contained in most foods that we eat. Something else that has been used for over a thousand years is a spice like garlic. This pungent little bulb is not liked by many because of the smell, but it is one of the best detox foods out there. It helps stimulate the liver into producing important detoxification enzymes that will help filter out toxic residues in the digestive system. Adding sliced or cooked garlic to most foods will help in any detox diet. In fact garlic is also recommended to people with high blood pressure. When detoxing it is also advised to use some oils that will help lubricate the intestinal walls, allowing the toxins to be absorbed by the oil, and eliminated by the body. The use of hemp, avocado, olive oils or flax seed oil while detoxing is recommended.Last but not least is water. I know many people do not like the taste of plain water, but this is known to be the best detox agent there is. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily helps in removing all the toxins in the body either by sweat or flushing out by easing the bowels. When it comes to detoxing your body, there are many techniques you can follow and supplements you can take. But, the best way, is to eat lots of foods that detox the body naturally.
