A South African construction firm Ruacon has won the bid to renovate and upgrade Nyamirambo regional stadium, the Ministry of Culture and Sport (MISPOC) has confirmed.

The ministry’s Secretary General Jean Pierre Karabaranga confirmed the development on Friday that Ruacon has entered into an agreement with the ministry to upgrade the stadium to international standards.

"The South African firm is expected to start its task next month and work is expected to take six months,” Karabaranga said.

Karabaranga further added that Ruacon will redesign and construct a better VIP pavilion covered stands and terraces and every part of the stadium. The reconstruction will see the stadium’s crowd rise to a 15000 capacity.

Among other developments to be done on the stadium; new turnstiles will be erected, floodlights will be installed, electronic scoreboards and sound systems will be installed and new changing rooms will be built.

Ruacon is also behind the reconstruction of the Free State stadium, Bloemfontein which will host some of the games of the 2010 World Cup finals.

The reconstruction of Nyamirambo stadium comes, one and half months after the stadium was equipped with an artificial turf stadium which the world’s football’s governing body, Fifa funded to a tune of over $350000.
