Rwanda’s top golf ace Emmanuel Ruterana carded 74 gross to finish third and pocketed $500 (about Frw275.000) on his debut at the lucrative Ericsson Open staged at Kitante Golf Club in Kampala, Uganda.
Despite hitting two thrilling birdies on the front-nine, the 24-year-old said he was not pleased with his presentation on the course.
"I played well on the front-nine but lost my focus on the back-nine.
I feel I should have posted better results.
Otherwise, I am looking forward to improve my game,” said the country’s only professional golfer.
The one-day tournament was handsomely attended, attracting 40 amateurs and 10 professionals from the host country Uganda and Rwanda.
The Ugandan pair of Steven Kasaija and Deo Akope shared spoils, carding 70 gross each to claim the Ericsson Open title jointly.
On day two, Ruterana travelled to Western Uganda to feature in the 36-hole Mbarara Barclays Open where he finished fourth after scoring 141gross.
The 24-year old who is bankrolled by BCR, has expressed gratitude towards the commercial bank for playing an integral parting in developing his career.
"I wouldn’t have gone this far without BCR sponsorship. I also want to thank Rwandair Express for footing my flight costs,” he noted.
