Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) organised a Genocide exhibition aimed at educating its students about the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.At the exhibition, an official from the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG), Dr. Diogene Bideri, said there is need for the young generation to read and understand the history of the genocide."When you read, you will not only get to know more about this horrific period but you will also be able to find out why some people deny the Genocide that occurred in this country,” Bideri told the students on Tuesday.He called for unity and use of education as a tool towards confronting the effects of Genocide."As people who got the chance to come to school, this should be the beginning of a positive change through educating others about the dangers of Genocide,” he said.The exhibition was organised by the KIE students’ association against Genocide. Speaking to The New Times, the Coordinator of the association, Dartagnan Habintwali, said the exhibition is part of the several activities students get involved in during this period.  "We have been involved in several activities even before the commemoration and this time, we are also planning to reach out to the needy,” Habintwali said.At the exhibition, there were documentaries of various people giving testimonies about the Genocide and films showing how it affected the country. There were also books on the Genocide.The Rector of KIE, Prof George K. Njoroge, called on Rwandans to uphold the truth about the Genocide."The truth hurts but it should be told and questions raised about such horrific actions so as to prepare for a better future,” he said.
