Editor,Allow me to react to a story that was published in The New Times of April, 11, announcing that the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) was, yesterday, due to begin deploying in the South Sudan under a new UN mission.I wish to commend the gallant men, women and officers of the Rwandan military who continue to work hard, often with great sacrifices, to either help bring about peace or maintain stability in various areas around the world. In particular, I’m proud of the role the Rwandan peacekeepers have played in restoring peace in Darfur, western Sudan. Rwandans have had a turbulent history and it is very encouraging to see that the current government is doing whatever possible to ensure that all human beings live in peace. South Sudan has already missed great investment opportunities because of a protracted civil war that has claimed many innocent lives. It is our duty as Africans to help Sudan realise total peace.I wish other national armies in Africa borrow a leaf from RDF by exhibiting high levels of professionalism. Of course, the RDF’s discipline is a reflection of the country’s good leadership.Innocent RukundoKigali
