A second artificial football pitch is being laid at Amahoro stadium side pitch close to the Heroes’ cemetery.

The pitch is second to the one at Nyamirambo stadium, which was completed early this year.

The International Federation of Football Associations, Fifa in corroboration with the local footballers’ body, Ferwafa sponsored the construction of both pitches.

According to officials at Ferwafa, construction of the artificial pitches is in line with their plans to have more and better grounds as part if the preparation for next year’s African U-20 Youth Championship, which will be held in Kigali in January.

The newly refurbished ground at Remera will mainly be used by the national football academy as well as for training by the national teams and visiting teams during the event.

Already the premises of the pitch have been fenced off to ensure security and good management of the facility. It is specially designed to host only football matches.

It is planned that three other support pitches at IFAK, Mumena and Kicukiro are among the ones to be upgraded before the youth championship, the first of its kind and magnitude to be held on Rwandan soil.

In related developments, reconstruction work on the main Amahoro stadium pitch has reached the finals stages.
