Here we go again! Is it the Spanish Primera Division, Italian Serie A, the German Bundesliga, the French Ligue 1 or the English Premier League, which one is the best or dominant league in the world?This is a debate that will divide football fans across the world for eternity but one that we can’t avoid to deliberate on from time to time.Without further details in regard to the five leading aforementioned European leagues, we all know that this debate has in the most recent years, is mainly centered on the two main contenders, La Liga and the English Premier League.Some, mostly the stereotypes, say the English Premier League is the best by a mile, while others will put their necks on the line for the Spanish Primera Division or La Liga.Spanish clubs have won more European trophies than their English counterparts, and especially in recent years, Barcelona and Spain have taken international football by storm, while clubs like Atletico Madrid, Sevilla have been major forces in the less competitive Uefa Cup, now Europa League.First forward to the current campaign, and again Spanish football has underlined its dominance of European competitions after Valencia, Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid all advanced to the Europa League semi-finals. Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon completes the last four.With Real Madrid and Barcelona on the chase, moreover as favorites for the Champions League final, plus Valencia, Bilbao and Atletico all in the semifinals of the Europa League, is there real a question which league is top on quality, especially at the moment?  If all the Spanish league clubs and not only the Big Two had half the money English clubs have, I bet we could see an exodus of top players to La Liga every summer from the other leagues, and the Spanish dominance of European football would be some levels higher than it is right now.While Chelsea remains England’s only representative in Europe, Spain still has five representatives, with three or four expected contest the two finals. Barca and Real are in the semis of the Champions League with both overwhelming favourites to reach the final, while we already know the state in the lesser Europa League where three of the four semifinalists are from the same country.Just the other day, Athletic Bilbao, a team languishing in La Liga mid table spanked England’s top team, Manchester United home and away in Europe League last 16 round, and with Chelsea due to meet Barcelona in Champions League semis, you can only feel for EPL faithful.How many would bet their houses against both the Champions League and Europa League finals being contested by team from Spanish Primera Division? And how far would that go to silence the La Liga critics, who, either through ignorance or hatred, keep saying it’s a two-team league? With Spain holding both the European Cup and Fifa World Cup and Barcelona odds on to become the first team since AC Milan in 1990 to lift the European Cup in successive seasons and the Europa League almost destined for Spain, who still doubts La Liga’s status as the best league in the world.
