A two-day international conference on Genocide, under the theme, ‘18 years after the Genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi: Testimonies and Reflections', is underway in Kigali.

The conference, which attracted high-profile scholars and researchers on genocide from around the world, was opened by Prime Minister Dr Pierre Damien Habumuremyi.

The premier emphasised the importance of reflecting on and drawing lessons from the country’s tragic history, observing it was critical in fighting Genocide denial, which he said had reduced, but remains widespread.

The conference is part of the activities in line with the 18th anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, which claimed the lives of more than a million people.
