The Prime Minister Bernard Makuza has urged residents of Ngororero district to end ethnic ideologies. Meeting residents on Thursday the Prime Minister observed that ethnic ideology was responsible for poverty.
"Truly speaking poverty is not a preserve of anybody here. And it is not meant for Rwanda or Africa for that matter. Change, development and virtually everything is possible but wealth can not be created, it can not come by when there are still clear obstacles within us,” he said.
Makuza challenged residents to make good choices in life, saying man reaps what he sows.
"If one chooses laziness, you reap poverty. But when you put security above other things you achieve much,” he added.
Makuza condemned scores of murders still going on in the country. He stressed that respect of human life is the current government policy and urged all residents to act as each other’s security watchdog.
Residents pointed out poverty as their biggest challenge. In response Makuza urged them to adopt modern crop and livestock farming to stem poverty.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by the minister for Local Government Protais Musoni. The district mayor pointed out lack of electricity in many sector offices as some of the other challenges facing the district. During the same visit, the Prime Minister commissioned offices for Muhororo Sector.
The Prime Minister’s visit to the area was meant to assess the partnership between residents and local leaders in achieving government programme of Vision 2020, according to a statement. On Friday he was supposed to continue his tour to Rubaya Tea Factory also in Ngororero.
