Somali FA, NOC chiefs killed

THE chairmen of Somalia Football Association (SFA) Seid Mahmoud Nur, and Somalia Olympic Committee (SOC) Aden Yabarow Wiish, were killed in a bomb blast after a female suicide bomber detonated a bomb in Mogadishu yesterday.At a ceremony celebrating the first anniversary of Somalia Television, in what had become merry making turned into a teary moment where two government officials were also confirmed dead and many people reportedly injured.The Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA), in a press statement signed by Secretary General Nicolas Musonye, has passed on its condolences to the people of Somalia.From the international community, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacque Rogee has expressed sorrow and shock at the death of the SOC and SFA presidents."Both men were engaged in improving the lives of Somalian people through sport and we strongly condemn such an act of barbarism. "Our thoughts are with the Somalian sporting community who lost two great leaders and with the families of the victims,” a statement released on behalf of Rogge by IOC Director of Communications, Mark Adams, said.
