As Rwanda’s music industry continues to improve, boom and grow, more young artistes are rising to grace.Eddie Mico is among very many aspiring musicians in the country struggling to make their music career thrive.The Kenyan-born Rwandan gospel artiste developed an amazing interest in music when he was still in primary school. And while in high school (S.2), Mico had already taken his talent to another level and made a tremendous improvement both vocally and with instruments. When his family returned to Rwanda, the youngster wasted no time and joined the Prince of Peace Choir at St. Etienne Cathedral in Kigali.Mico never gave up his love for music, despite facing very many challenges. He used every opportunity that he got to train himself for public events and concerts, as well as composing songs and performing.He got together with a few friends and formed a band called BMS; they composed songs and organised concerts as well as festivals at Lycée de Kigali, among other venues. The zeal kept him going until when he joined university at the School of Finance and Banking (SFB), where he started to get support from different people’s assistance.Mico’s greatest musical influences are Kirk Franklin, Israel, Robert Kelly (R. Kelly) and Donnie Mc Clurkinand. And at the local scene, he admires Ezra and Aime Uwimana. The singer also attributes the success to his family for the big role it played in supporting him."I come from a musical family, my grandfather was a singer, composer and pianist,” Mico said.His love for music has continued to grow through the years. He learned to play the keyboard and piano when he was young. His first single "YOU” was released in December 2008 and the singer has since released numerous songs which include "Umukunzi wangye, "mubo nabonye” and "Reka Ubwiza”.As a songwriter and composer, Mico has been engaged in writing and composing songs and jingles. He has also helped young gospel singers to make their own music.In Rwanda, Mico has already made an impact both on the gospel and popular music scene as a solo performer, sharing the stage with renowned musicians like Aime Uwimana and Dominic Nic.He intends to place his experience at the disposal of all that desire to improve their music skills.
