Kayiranga coy on Hoops presidency

INTERIM basketball federation president Albert Kayiranga has refused to say whether he will run for body’s presidency in the elections slated for April 21.Kayiranga, who also heads the sports department at the National University of Rwanda, took over the role early this year when Eric Kalisa Salongo resigned citing ‘personal reasons.’"All I can confirm to you is that the elections will take place on April 21, but at the moment I can not say whether I will run for the post or not,” Kayiranga said yesterday in telephone interview.The other posts that will be up for grabs are; first vice president and legal advisor.Meanwhile, the Imbuto Foundation sponsored 3 on 3 tournament climaxes today with semi-finals and finals at Petit Stade.Rusizi will play UNR while Espoir takes on last year’s league champions KBC. In the women’s fray APR will play NUR.Three on three tournament is a new competition is meant to popularize the game of basketball and also spread messages about prevention of malaria in Nyagatare and Bugesera which has been the most hit by the disease.The winners will walk away with Rwf 250,000, while the first runners-up will get Rwf 200,000 and 150,000 will be given to the third placed team.
