The Dutch community in Rwanda celebrated the King's birthday on Friday, April 28, with a colorful reception hosted by Matthijs Clemens Wolters, the Dutch Ambassador to Rwanda, at his residence in Nyarutarama, Kigali.

The event was graced by government officials, diplomats, and other guests who turned up in large numbers to show their love and support for the Dutch community in Rwanda.

The atmosphere was befitting of a royal birthday. Guests enjoyed a variety of music, food, and fine Dutch cheese, among other things.

Koningsdag, also known as King&039;s Day, is a full-day celebration of Dutch culture marked every year on April 27, King Willem-Alexander's birthday.

The Dutch people, both at home and abroad, dress up in orange to honor the royal family - the House of Orange - and participate in unregulated street markets and parties.

For the first time in three years, the Dutch community in Rwanda commemorated King's Day with a reception that provided a platform for guests to mingle, network, and celebrate the occasion.

The Dutch Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the guests for joining them in celebrating their big day, which he described as a sign of love and support to the Dutch community in the country.

He commended the good relations between the Netherlands and Rwanda, citing various initiatives that the two countries have been working on, including food security and various investments in other sectors, especially since the two countries moved from aid based relationship to commercial ties.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Clementine Mukeka, assured the continuity of collaboration and relations between the two countries.

She recognized the Netherlands' efforts in spreading awareness about the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, their solidarity with Rwanda during the commemoration period, and their role in bringing some genocide fugitives to justice.

The highlight of the evening was a raffle, which saw lucky guests win impressive prizes, including air tickets. The celebration went on till late, providing an opportunity for guests to unwind.
