Nyagatare District will soon get a veterinary clinic, thanks to a new partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources and Mutara Polytechnic, an official has said.Dr Michel Ngarambe, the coordinator of Livestock Infrastructure Support Programme ((LISP), said the facility will be based in the premises of the university."The main objective is to address the challenge of insufficient veterinary officers in the country and we believe it will greatly boost the livestock sector in general,” he said.He told The New Times that the clinic will provide advisory services to farmers on how best they can protect their cattle from diseases and how to deal with disease outbreaks, especially foot and mouse disease.The official observed that the clinic will also help provide further training for the existing veterinary officers with a view of improving theory services.A study is ongoing to ascertain the architectural design of the Rwf250 million facility, he said.The project will be funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), with construction activities set to commence in August and go on for a period of one year.Currently, Rwanda has one veterinary school at the Higher Institute of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry at ISAE-Busogo, Northern Province. Farmers have welcomed the move."It means we will easily access services,” said David Mushaija, a resident of Musheri sector, Nyagarare District.
