KIREHE – Rusumo High School now boasts a fully-equipped ICT laboratory courtesy of MTN Rwanda.The lab, part of the telecom company’s ‘ICT School Project’, has 36 computers, complete with one-year internet connection.It was inaugurated on Thursday by Zulfat Mukarubega, a board member of MTN Foundation, and the Mayor of Kirehe District, Protais Murayire.Paul Mugemangago, senior manager, Legal and Corporate Affairs at MTN Rwanda said: "This project is designed to enable teachers and students in secondary schools acquire practical skills on the usage and understanding of ICT and how it can add value to their lives.”"Since the project (ICT School Project) was launched in 2010, a big number of teachers and students now have access to Internet. This is one of the ways through which MTN Rwanda empowers young people so that in the future they can play a key part in the country’s economic development,” he explained.The company has spent more than Rwf150 million on the project.Fredrick Rutimirwa, the headmaster of Rusumo High School, told The New Times that the school will "immensely” benefit from the new laboratory."Both our students and teachers are going to use it for academic purposes. There is no doubt we will benefit a lot from the one-year free internet connection they have given us,” he said.Six High schools in various parts of the country have so far benefited from the project. They include Essa High School, Ste Bernadette, Kabarondo High School, Kanombe High School, ESG Rubavu and Gihundwe High School.Overall, MTN Rwanda has donated over 250 computers in the schools, with more than 5,500 students and 300 teachers
