An ICT print and online publication, Chief Information Office (CIO) East Africa, on Thursday launched its operations in Rwanda in a bid to spread its footprint across the region.The publication is distributed within East Africa (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania) with plans to open in Burundi this year.At a breakfast meeting in Kigali, the company hosted numerous actors in the ICT sector in Rwanda to showcase its ICT projects.Speakers informed the audience on the latest technologies in the market place and how and where these technologies are being used.CIO East Africa’s Publisher, Harry Hare, said the company is committed to serving the East Africa Community."A lot has been done in the country, and Rwanda has made many strides in bringing ICT closer to the people—so it was high time for CIO East Africa to appreciate,” Hare noted.Hare said that, more importantly, Rwanda is set to take its services to the cloud platform.The topics of discussion at the meeting included Live Cloud, big data, IT Service Management and IT Consumerisation.He disclosed that the company  works closely with the Kenya ICT Board and e-government in Kenya as the company uses its forum to showcase what is happening within the public sector, present its ICT strategy to its audience, which is the private sector.  There are lots of projects that the private sector doesn’t know about. So our forum allows for this information to be shared, he added.Discussing the National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Strategic Plan for the period 2011 – 2015 (NICI13), the Head of Rwanda Development Board (RDB-ICT) Patrick Nyirishema, said the Government through the implementation of the strategic plan, intends to achieve important objectives on socio-economic development of the country."The third plan, NICI III (NICI-2015 Plan will focus on the development of services by leveraging ICTs to improve service delivery to citizens, as Rwanda approaches the fourth and final phase of the NICI process that will propel Rwanda to achieve Vision 2020 goals,” Nyirishema explained.Live Cloud & Storage in the Cloud - software is out of date as business applications move to the Internet with the promise of more affordability, more security, more features and more accessibility in a sea of devices.
