RWANDAN students in Uganda on Sunday organised a football competition that brought together eight universities for the inaugural tournament held at the St. Lawrence University play grounds.Nkumba University won the tournament thrashing Kampala International University 5-2 in the final."We needed to win this competition because our boys have been practicing so hard. This gives us morale to work even harder for future competitions,” said Robert Kansiime, the president of the Nkumba Banyarwanda Students’ Association.KIU Banyarwanda Students’ Association president John Kayitare conceded defeat, but largely attributed the loss to his exhausted team that had earlier in the day beaten St. Lawrence 3 -0.While handing over the trophy to Nkumba’s captain Amos Ndugutse, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Frank Mugambage, commended the students for organising the games, and pledged to support the initiative."You, as youth, should always strive for unity because divisionism has never constructed any society in the world, we are going to promote this activity,” Mugambage said.John Sebadende, St. Lawrence University’s Sports Minister and one of the organisers of the games, decried the financial difficulties that hit preparations for the games.The tournament included; Group A: St. Lawrence University, Kampala University, Nkumba University, and Uganda Christian University (UCU).Group B: Makerere University, Kampala International University (KIU), Makerere University Business School (MUBS), and Kyambogo University.Cavendish University is the latest institution to join the Banyarwanda Interuniversity Students’ Association.
