RWANDAN athletes will get a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the Olympic Flame which will be carried through St Edmunds, London on July 7.The Rwandan team at the Olympic Games will head to London on July 4 to fine tune ahead of the Games, and Bury St Edmunds will host members of both the Rwandan Olympic and Paralympics teams.The Rwandan teams have signed an agreement to use facilities such as the West Suffolk Athletics Arena and Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre in their preparations for the Games.The Olympic Games Chef de Mission Serge Mwambali told Times Sport yesterday that Rwanda’s departure for London will be on July 4 and reach St Edmunds the following day."This was done to help Rwandan delegation be able to watch and experience the Olympic Torch which will be passing through St. Edmunds on July 7,” noted Mwambali.Since many people will not get tickets to watch the Olympic and Paralympics Games, showcasing the Olympic Torch will be a great way to spread their legacy.To date, Rwanda has only two athletes, Adrien Niyonshuti (cycling) and Jean Pierre Mvuyekure (marathon) have qualified for the event.But a yet to be known of athletes in boxing, swimming and judo will be represent the country after receiving wildcards for the Games which begin on July 7 to August 12.
