Editor,I wish to respond to a story that appeared in The New Times issue of March, 20, titled "Medic held over suspected rape of pregnant woman” Arresting the medic in question sent a strong warning to other hospital officials throughout the country. However, it would be more helpful if the inspection was done more regularly and extended to all hospitals and health centres – both public and private. There could be other culprits hiding out there. We all have mothers and we should protect them no matter what. Anybody who is wronged by medical practitioners must report the matter to the nearby police station or other relevant authorities. That way, we will be able to shame those who want to discredit the good image of other professional doctors. At times, when you visit hospitals, you find several patients lying down on the floor unattended for several hours. The issue of shortage of doctors should never be an excuse because I believe that we can still manage with those we have.Paul KalisaMusanza
