Academic transcripts of all government employees are being scrutinised in a stepped-up campaign against forged papers, it has emerged. Alex Ntagungira, the Director of Public Service Management and Development in the Ministry of Public Service and Labour, told The Sunday Times on Friday, that names and academic particulars of employees in some government institutions had been checked.He said the ministry started the exercise late last year and the aim is to instil a culture of transparency and honesty among government employees."We have visited several government institutions. We shall soon move upcountry and see what is happening,” Ntagungira said in telephone interview.The ministry wants to find out whether academic papers submitted by the employees correspond with the information from their schools.A source said among other vetting criteria to be used includes identifying the correlation of exam registration numbers, plus names and photos of every candidate.Employees found to have forged their paths to get jobs will be prosecuted.Sources at the Ministry of Education say they suspect some employees could be in possession of forged academic transcripts, something that brings into question the credibility of employees.Last year, the Ministry of Public Service and Labour wrote to all heads of government institutions directing them to send employees’ academic documents for verification to ascertain their accreditation. forms to confirm that they indeed studied in the said institutions.
