Rwanda’s soccer governing body, Ferwafa is working round the clock to find potential sponsors for next year’s league in a bid to make it more professional.
The federation’s vice president, Veduste Kayiranga has revealed that Ferwafa is having talks with different companies.
"Everything is being done to find a lasting solution to the sponsorship crisis in our football league. We have contacted many companies in the country and are optimistic that before next month, we shall have landed a potential sponsor for the league,” Kayiranga hinted.
"At the moment, Uganda’s top division league is more marketable than our league because of their potential sponsor GTV but with time, I’m confident our league will catch up,” the official noted.
Following GTV’s arrival in Uganda, it is said that many local and foreign based players in the primus league want to relocate to Uganda.
Local clubs to be most affected here include Atraco FC, Rayon Sport and Umurabyo. "We don’t get exposure in the Primus league and that’s why at times we fail to get the national team’s (Uganda Cranes) call. So playing in a more professionalized league will be more important because we shall get a lot of exposure,” Atraco midfielder, Joseph Kabagambe said recently.
Uganda’s Super League landed a lucrative sponsorship five-year deal with Gateway TV (GTV), a new pay television in Africa worthy US$ 5m (Frw. 2.7 billion).Ends
