Students of Mount Kenya University (MKU-Rwanda) have unveiled a programme to financially support vulnerable children get an education.Speaking to The New Times, the head of MKU students’ association, Joseph Furaha Nkuruniziza, said that some of the initiatives will benefit victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.The institution, in collaboration with Rwanda Athletics Association, has organised an athletics competition at Amahoro National Stadium to fundraise for the first beneficiaries."As Rwandans, we have to do everything within our means to solve our problems and not to wait for help or support from outsiders,” Nkuruniziza emphasised, explaining that such events would be organised annually to enhance the programme. The competition which will take place on April 1, will attract participants from universities such as the National University of Rwanda (NUR), INLAK and Tumba College of Technology. Others are financial institutions, hotels and companies. To take part, participants will be required to part with a minimum of Rwf 1,000.
