Editor,Allow me the opportunity to state that my country has come a long way. The achievements we have attained over the last 17 years cannot be sneered at, even by the coldest of Rwanda’s critics. Personally, I do not believe in confrontations. Arguing with our detractors will only rob us of our valuable time, or even almost distract us. The truth is that some of those people are blinded to whatever progress we are making and will remain so.The best way to drive our point home is to keep steaming ahead by consolidating our achievements and even posting more. Our biggest challenge, as an ambitious, developing nation, is fighting and eventually defeating poverty. Poverty is our greatest enemy. Yet, our experience over the past five years has proved this is a winnable battle, no matter how long it can take. That a million people were able to beat the poverty trap in just half a decade is no mean feat.Nonetheless, we will need to remain steadfast, and avoid the temptation of resting on our laurels – although we reserve the right to give ourselves a measured pat on the back and to derive relative satisfaction from what we have achieved together. But the whole country and population will need to pull together if we are to continue posting such successes.Pauline TetaNyagatare
