Guinean president awarded African prize for democracy

The Executive Committee of the African Parliament has awarded the Guinean president, Alpha Conde, the “African prize for the search of democracy” for the “positive work he had done in the last 15 months” to restore good governance in the West African country.

The Executive Committee of the African Parliament has awarded the Guinean president, Alpha Conde, the "African prize for the search of democracy” for the "positive work he had done in the last 15 months” to restore good governance in the West African country. A delegation of the African Parliament arrived in Guinea on Tuesday, bearing "a congratulatory message and support from the entire African civil society community to President Conde,” according to an official statement. The committee praised Conde for "the reforms he had initiated in the army, the restoration of relations between Guinea and the Bretton Woods institutions and the European Union as well as the political dialogue process that his government is engaged in with the opposition.” The Guinean president thanked the Guinean people for supporting the reforms that he had initiated since he came to power. He said that it was the Guinean people who had made sacrifices so that reforms could be carried out at various levels.
