The 18th edition of the Karate ‘Never Again’ tournament will, for the first time, feature a foreign team. taking part.Karate players from High Park Martial arts team, a Toronto based karate club, will jet into the country on April 17, for the one-day tournament scheduled for April 20.Accordign to the president of the national karate federation, Theogene Uwayo, the federation plans to invite more foreign teams to take part in the tournament which is held in memory of former players and officials who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi."This tournament is very important because it helps us to remember our colleagues, including players and administrators who died in the Genocide. "We shall be inviting foreign teams, not just to play in the tournament, but also show how sport has helped heal the wounds of Genocide,” Uwayo told Times Sport.Some of the most prominent players, who lost their lives during the Genocide include Jean Marie Vianney Kalisa, Emmanuel Kamali, Theodore Kamayire, Jean Pierre Kabarira and Innocent Gahamanyi.Eleven clubs are expected to take part in the event, and they include; Samurai, High Park Martial arts, Kaisho, APR, Kensei, Aigle, Hantei, Lion, Mamaru, Nyamagabe and UNR.
