It has been a month since I started working. I have had to only do what I’m ordered to. I’ve had to learn the hard way to deal with different personalities and use them to my advantage as far as my job is concerned.

I’ve had to literally drag myself out of the best bed in Kigali, mine of course! I’ve had to face the fear of managing money that doesn’t belong to me and budget all too sparingly for my own. I’ve had to learn how to balance my social life and my occupational life, making sure I lose neither. Every minute of my time is as valuable as taking my meals. I’ve had to reconsider my priorities and focus on them alone if I want to be productive to myself and honestly, the lessons never end.Of course for someone like me, who only saw it from the perspective of making money and nothing more, it has taught me otherwise.Well, it’s been a roller-coaster ride for me to adjust and fit into the working world psychologically and physically. It’s been a bit of a strain to my usual comfort zone as regards to responsibility and sometimes, I just want to give up because I’m afraid of making any big mistakes, just as it usually is for first-timers. However, at the end of the day I must agree that the experience is so worthwhile. I’m sure my peeps who’ve already gotten the chance of vacation employment can attest to that. You can narrate of how much it’s an essential mind opener. I have personally grown wiser, more resilient and more driven over the past month that I am sure this is exactly the kind of taming I need before I join university. My challenging transition to the employment world is the nearest example I have to give to confirm that the road of life gets wider and wider as we move forward! Moreover, the transition to each stage is definitely not a walkover. It takes extra determination!Unbelievably, there is a person capable of way more than you can imagine! The ability to present yourself and the outcome of your effort before anyone in the position of scrutiny over you depends on your willingness to stand up to the challenges that face you. Employment is an example and it should be for purposes of gaining more expertise for your personal development rather than just earning money! My vacation working experience, in regards to my future professional life, can be described in one word—a milestone.
