Many teens start their dating journey as early as they possibly can. Other teens are lured into it through peer pressure especially when everyone around them is dating. As a teen, it is important to consider a number of aspects about dating before you jump into something you are not ready for. Think about why you want to start dating and be sure it is for the right reasons.Watching your peers dating and coupling off will leave you thinking that this is the norm. Usually, teens aren’t ready to start dating but do so anyway because their friends are doing it. Teens should know that dating at such a young age comes with a lot of unwanted issues. Popular television shows like Gossip Girl, The O.C and One Tree Hill all depict teen dating like it were something to be okay with. They showcase teenage dating as the norm. Many teens start dating because they want to mimic their favorite television characters or movie stars because dating as a teenager is portrayed as cool in these shows and films. They do not recognize the dangers dating can have on their life. Dating often leads to premature sexual activity in teens. This is done dangerously and without protection in most cases, usually ending up in unwanted pregnancies, STD’s and HIV. With the flood of emotions dating brings, teenagers are often left emotionally scarred. Breakups and broken hearts occur more frequently as a result of teen dating. Some are left with thoughts of suicide, depression and inadequacy. This and the many inherent dangers that come with teen dating are why parents must keep a close eye on their teenagers, and do their best to protect them.
