The Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) has donated assorted items worth Frw3.5m to the Kinyanya orphanage.

The gesture comes as an act of corporate social responsibility. A statement from RRA said the donation is part of their activities to commemorate the 14th Genocide anniversary.

Part of the statement reads, "We have come to remind our children that as Rwandans we have the responsibility to stand by you and give you as much care and hope for tomorrow as we can.”

The quote in the statement are attributed to RRA Commissioner General, Mary Baine who led the group of RRA staff to the orphanage.

The staff bought 50 sacks of rice, 1,100kgs of beans, 15 sacks of posho and 14 sacks of wheat flour. Other items included 15 iron sheets to facilitate the roofing of the orphanage’s bakery.

"Frw1 million was in hard cash,” Annette Birungi, RRA publicist said.   Baine was happy that the orphanage was engaged in small financial generating projects, like the bakery and small plantations. She said this makes the institution partially self sustaining.

She urged management to expand the projects in order to exploit the growing market countrywide. Baine was optimistic that such development projects may contribute to the country’s economic growth through taxation.
