More Kamonyi accident victims discharged

Following the tragic accident in Kamonyi on Friday, last week, the victims are responding well to treatment and some have already been discharged, says a statement from the Ministry of Health.The accident, which claimed eight people on spot, left 34 others with injuries. "Of the 34 injured that were rushed to the Kigali Central Teaching Hospital (CHUK), eight were transferred to Kibagabaga hospital, 11 to Kanombe Millitary Hospital. Among the five that were severely injured, two were transferred to King Faisal Hospital, Kigali (KFH),” reads part of the statement.By yesterday, a total of 27 had been discharged from all the four health facilities. To strengthen handling of similar emergencies in the future, the ministry plans, through CHUK, to acquire more equipment, including extra-basic necessities like beds that will be used in periods of emergency."The Ministry of Health would like to also reassure the entire population that it is dedicated to deliver quality health care to Rwandans and that improvement of capacity for our health facilities to provide these quality services is still in progress.” Meanwhile, government cautioned drivers to take extra care and vigilance and "remember that speed kills.” "It is the duty of every driver to understand that they are accountable for the lives of the people they transport and must therefore exhibit a sense of responsibility,” the statement added.
