Kenyan duo of Albert Kemboi and Sylvester Kipchirchir spiced up this month’s club’s athletics championship by recording impressive wins in 800m and 1500m events at Kicukiro grounds over the weekend.
Kenyan duo of Albert Kemboi and Sylvester Kipchirchir spiced up this month’s club’s athletics championship by recording impressive wins in 800m and 1500m events at Kicukiro grounds over the weekend.
The Kenyan duo have been recruited by the National University (UNR) athletics club in order to speed up their neutralization a feat which would see the pair representing Rwanda on the international scene.
Kemboi clocked 1:53:54 to win the 800m with Joseph Nzirorera finishing second ahead of Kamonyi’s Emmanuel Safari.
Kipchirchir ran 1500m in 3:52:26, with APR’s Godfrey Rutayisire coming second in a time of 3:53:20 while UNR’s Evaliste Habineza finished third in a time of 3:54:20.
In the men’s 100m and 200m categories, Kamonyi’s Islam Mulinda won both events clocking 10:89 and 22:34 respectively.
APR’s Mousa Bizimana won the 400m event clocking 49:23 while team mate Jean Baptist Simuceka won the 5000m in a time of 14:46.
In the women’s category, Kamonyi’s Amida Murekatete won both the 100m and 200m events clocking 13:59 and 27:39 respectively.
UNR’s Epiphanie Uwintije clocked 59:55 to win the 400m while Kamonyi’s Thérèse Uwamariya recorded personal best time of 2:22:51 to win the 800m event.
Fifteen year old Adéline Musabyeyezu of Kamonyi athletics club won the 1500m clocking 4 minutes and 40 seconds while APR’s athlete Claudette Mukasakindi won the 5000m clocking 17:48:49.
