PRESS STATEMENTMessage of condolenceThe Ministry of Health and the entire Health sector family has learnt with great shock and sadness the unfortunate death of one of our colleague, Dr. Alexis Nyakayiro who was involved in an accident that happened on Friday March 16th.This accident happened in Kamonyi district and claimed the lives of 7 other Rwandans and left more with both serious and minor injuries.Dr. Nyakayiro was a dedicated and hardworking Health care professional who served in different capacities including overseeing the mentorship and training of our young professionals during his tenure as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the National university of Rwanda.His wealth of experience and expertise on matters of health will immensely be missed by the entire sector. Similarly, the entire family of the Health sector wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to the families of all those who lost their beloved ones in the accident.We particularly wish to caution every driver to take extra care and vigilance and remember that speed kills. It is the duty of every driver to understand that they are accountable for the lives of the people they transport and must therefore exhibit a sense of responsibility.Once again, on behalf of the Health sector, our sincere condolences go to the families, friends and well wishers of the bereaved.Dr. Agnes BinagwahoMinister of Health Republic of Rwanda
