Rwandan producer Pastor P, real name Patrick Bugingo, has unveiled plans of dropping his maiden album on May 1.
The renowned producer who is one of the pioneers of audio production in Rwanda, announced the development on Monday, April 24, saying that the whole project contains old songs which he re-made and added beats and a modern vibe to them.
Dubbed ‘Ruticumugambi’, the 10-track album comes to keep the legacy of Rwandan traditional music so that it can benefit future generations, the producer told The New Times.
"I’ve done my own research and discovered that most of our songs lack creativity of origin and I made this album to introduce new vibes in our music industry that have a bit of a traditional touch, and encourage fellow musicians to do so,” Pastor P said.
The producer further noted that all songs on the tape were originally written and produced by traditional icon musicians including Urucyerereza, Kamaliza and Inyamanza.
"Eight songs on the album were originally produced by Urucyerereza without instrumentals. I added beats and melodies to their vocals and made something that would take us back to our roots and be played anywhere at any time,” Pastor P added.
The long awaited album was produced by Pastor P himself with additional saxophone sounds created by Mutemua. It débuts on Monday on all streaming platforms.
