2021/2022 Peace Cup finalists APR FC advanced to the 2022/23 Peace Cup semifinals after beating 4-2 in a quarter-final second leg match held at the Umuganda Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The army side sailed through on a 6-3 aggregate victory after winning the first leg 2-1 at Bugesera Stadium.
The second leg started brightly for APR who scored the opening goal in the 4th minute through Gilbert Mugisha before Olivier Usabimana equalized for the home side after 10 minutes.
Yannick Bizimana, who was on target in the first leg, banged in the second for APR in the 24th minute before a brace from Alain Kwitonda in the 35th and 67th minute respectively to make it 4-1.
The home side dominated possession in the last minutes of the game with some wonderful displays which saw Aminu Nahimana net the second goal in the 87th minute.
Marines kept pushing for more chances to force the match into extra time but it was too late as the game ended 4-2 in favor of APR.
APR will now face either Kiyovu or Rwamagana City in the semifinals.
Kiyovu suffered a 2-1 deficit at Ngoma Stadium a fortnight ago and will need to put up a comeback when the pair face off in the return leg at Muhanga Stadium on Wednesday.
