KIGALI - The Mayor of Kigali City Council, Dr. Aisha Kirabo, has announced that the district would start constructing more zebra crossings in a stepped up campaign to reduce accidents in town.

Kirabo was reacting to recent complaints by the head of Traffic Police, Chief Superintendent Robert Niyonshuti, who attributed many accidents to he few traffic lights and zebra crossings in town.

The Mayor revealed this on Friday shortly after the public accountability day held at the Kigali city council head offices.

Niyonshuti accused the district of negligence in fighting accidents that claimed 23 lives and 159 others sustained serious injuries countrywide, of which fifty were pedestrians, and the rest passengers.

Gasabo District recorded the highest death toll with seven, followed by Kicukiro and Nyarugenge, all in Kigali City.
