Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on Wednesday outlined his party’s minimum conditions for the holding of free and fair elections in Zimbabwe. The MDC president has been on record saying that his party will boycott any elections that do not conform to the provisions of the power-sharing Global Political Agreement (GPA) which he entered into with President Robert Mugabe (Zanu-PF) and Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara (then representing the splinter faction of the MDC).In a statement after a meeting of party’s national executivecommittee, party spokesman Douglas Mwonzora said MDC had resolved to treat the year 2012 as a watershed year and to prepare for elections whether or not they would be held during the year. "To that end, the Organising Department is working flat out to prepare the MDC structures for elections. However, the committee reiterated that the elections must only be held after all the conditions for free and fair elections have been fulfilled,” he said.
