NOW in its second year, the Pink GirlFest is the first festival to cater for women only. The national festival aims to "get the girls out of the cities and into nature, interacting with like-minded people while having fun in a safe and secure in environment”.Pink GirlFest will be held from March 22 to 25 at Malonjeni Guest Farm which is close to Heidelberg in Gauteng. It will feature 15 performers, three major workshops, three sports clinics as well as DJs and other activities. In terms of performers, Karen Zoid is the main attraction, but look out for the new girl about town, Toya DeLazy, whose blend of frenetic 21st-century pop has the underground music scene abuzz. Holly and the Woods will provide some cool rock. Androgeny are billed as drag kings and comedy will be supplied by Kellyn Coetzee. The idea for the festival was birthed early last year when Nel invited the ‘1st Friday Parties’ organiser, Kerry Knowles, to bring some of her friends to her farm for a weekend of partying.
