Cabinet Ministers, Rwandan Ambassadors and High Commissioners have, for the first time, signed Imihigo (Performance Contracts), committing to meeting specific targets under their dockets. The exercise was one of the highlights of the just concluded Ninth Leadership Retreat in Gako, Bugesera District, where government officials, agreed to step up the pace of delivery, as the country revises, upwards, the indicators for Vision 2020.Imihigo or Performance contracts have played a central role in accelerating national economic transformation, particularly at the community level. Cabinet ministers were and remain instrumental in the execution of development targets, with each minister advising and overseeing progress in at least one district on a regular basis. However, with the ministers now signing Imihigo of heir own, they will enhance the mobilization of all the necessary resources, in a timely and effective manner, to meet set targets. The same applies to the diplomats whose role in attracting FDIs, and marketing Rwanda as an ideal investment destination, cannot be over-emphasised.The world, today, celebrates the International Women’s Day, with Rwanda using the occasion to launch what has been dubbed the ‘Women and Girls’ Month’ campaign. The campaign, which seeks to promote women and girls’ rights as well as their role in nation building, could not have come at a better time ‘ with households now repositioned to constitute the nucleus of the national development agenda.Rwandan women have served as the heartbeat of their families, often taking credit for every achievement the families has registered at least within the public opinion. The government hopes to use the month-long campaign to promote healthy feeding at the family level, women’s health and wealth as well  as girls education, among others.Nonetheless, for the campaign to deliver the ultimate results, men will need to be more engaged and involved in promoting the cause.
